Music is the source of the universe. It can make one's world go ‘round. The magic of festivals and the joy music can bring unites people from all over the world. Forcastle offers a unique vibe that has something for everyone. There are many things to do at Forecastle, but the most important thing to do is be yourself and do what you feel. Let the music guide you. There is something for everyone here- from Bourbon tours to skate parks, the “city of art and parks” is the perfect place for a weekend getaway.
It was a beautiful sunny day as we arrived at Forecastle. The unique atmosphere captured our attention. One of the first things I noticed was a colorful boat blasting dance music with mermaids waving at everyone surrounding it. They also had interesting costume characters walking around the festival dressed up as sea animals blending in with the oceanic theme of the festival. The festival takes place in the heart of Louisville on the Waterfront park along the banks of the mighty Ohio river.
Forecastle has art by the American Poster Institution with posters that are worth viewing with designs that will leave your imagination wondering. These aren’t just any posters- they are all handcrafted making it one-of-a-kind. Many of the vendors are actually local to the area, adding an even more unique touch to the festival. The craft vendors offer lots of original merchandise, relating to different ideas or artists from the line up that will catch your eye as you stroll through the festival grounds.
Looking to relax? Check out the bright blue hammocks underneath the trees. Take a break, sip on some craft brew, and enjoy some of the finest food local to the city while gazing among the tree tops with music in the background. I got to experience this delicious cheese sandwich sponsored by Cheezeit truck. Mmm it was so good; all different flavors of cheese melted into my mouth.
Despite the mild rain on day one, that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the evening and having a blast. Mimosa, from Los Angeles, lit up the stage under the bridge with neon lights reflecting everywhere. He set the atmosphere for the evening. His electronic/trap genre of music had festival-goers dancing the night away. If you aren't into that genre of music, maybe you took it old school and saw Outkast from the 90's, who also put on quite the show. Forecastle even offers late-night shows experienced beyond the Waterfront. If you aren't ready to settle down, join the after party on the Belle of Louisville with music blasting and the boat rockin.’
Forecastle is a unique festival that gives you a feel of Louisville and allows you to experience the magic of music. Regardless of what bans are playing, the atmosphere itself is worth experiencing.
